PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Couty (PHC) on Thursday extended the stay of oath-taking of lawmakers of National and KP Assembly notified on reserved seats denied to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
The PHC larger bench headed by Chief Justice Istiad Ibrahim heard the the SIC’s plea and extended the stay order until March 13.
Headed by Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, a five-member larger bench convened to hear the SIC’s plea. The additional attorney general (AAG), ECP representatives, and representatives from other involved parties were present at the court.
During the hearing, the AAG noted the unavailability of the attorney general, who was engaged in Supreme Court proceedings. In light of this, Sanaullah requested time to adequately prepare the case.
“We summoned the attorney general,” remarked Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
Additionally, Qazi Anwar Advocate announced the imminent appointment of a new advocate general.
Considering these developments and the attorney general’s absence, the court decided to extend the stay order until March 13, maintaining the status quo on the oath-taking of National Assembly members on reserved seats.
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim emphasized the attorney general’s expected presence at the next hearing, highlighting its significance to the proceedings.
The hearing concluded with the announcement that Justice Ibrahim would preside over the case once again next Wednesday, signaling the continuation of the legal process.
