PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday fixed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition for hearing against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declaration of its intra-party elections as void and the subsequent withdrawal of its election symbol, the bat.
The PHC Judge Justice Kamran Hayat will hear the case today.
Led by Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar, PTI’s legal team included Barrister Gohar and Sher Afzal Marwat filed the plea in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) today,, seeing the suspension of the ECP decision. They argued that the ECP’s decision is legally flawed and raises concerns about the withdrawal of an election symbol at the behest of an unrelated party.
Earlier on Monday, the Awami National Party (ANP) Central Senior Vice President and former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while addressing to a public gathering in Marden, said that ANP is watching closely as PTI faces symbol troubles. He expressed concerns over the withdrawal of PTI’s election symbol and hinted at the possibility of a similar fate for ANP. Hoti, in a press conference, suggested that to justify PTI’s symbol being withdrawn, another similar decision against ANP might be in the cards.
He voiced discontent, stating that the decisions against ANP in the last two elections would not be tolerated any longer. Hoti urged that any decision made should align with the constitution and laws of the country. The political chess game continues!
