The Peshawar High Court has granted protective bail to Sheikh Waqas Akram, Central Secretary Information of OPTI, amid ongoing legal issues. Despite the court’s order, police authorities in Punjab and Islamabad have not ceased efforts to detain him.
The protective bail hearing was presided over by a two-judge bench led by Justice Ijaz Anwar. Akram’s legal team highlighted immediate concerns for his safety and possible arrest in Peshawar. While the petition was not submitted in the Islamabad or Lahore High Courts, Akram’s lawyer argued that his client faced an imminent risk of arrest over the past month, prompting the urgent request for protective bail.
This decision has underscored ongoing questions regarding inter-provincial coordination on legal matters, as Sheikh Waqas Akram remains under provisional protection pending further legal proceedings.
