PIA chief working on `pro bono’ basis without salary and perks

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Azam Saigol is working on ‘pro bono’ basis. This was stated by the spokesman of the national flag carrier here on Monday.
In a statement he maintained that `It has been noticed that some in electronic and social media are spreading a frivolous news against Mr. Azam Saigol, the Chairman of PIA, in respect of allegedly drawing salary from Pakistan International Airlines Limited (PIACL)’.
The spokesman clarified that Azam Saigol is holding position of Chairman of the Board of PIACL and has been, since his appointment, working on pro bono basis- without salary and perks.
Furthermore, he also clarified that role of the Chairman of PIACL is to head the Board since shift of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation to PIACL under the Companies Ordinance, 1984 and applicability of Public Sector companies (Corporate governance rules) 1913 the positions of a Chairman and Chief Executive have been separated intentionally, unlike under the previous regime where both were entrusted to one person.
Therefore, now the management of PIACL is headed by Chief Executive and the Board by Chairman.
‘In view of the above facts the said frivolous news in respect of Mr. Azam Saigol on account of drawing any salary is misconceived and incorrect’, the spokesman added.
