PM consults coalition partners on elections under digital census: Sources

ISLAMABAD: The major coalition parties of the government are mulling over conducting next general elections after delimitation under digital census, sources said.

According to sources, former president Asif Ali Zardari and PDM president Maulana Fazlur Rehman called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM office. They discussed the current political and economic situation in the country. They also discussed their strategy for next general elections and upcoming polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

The sources said that they also started consultation on conducting next general elections under new digital census. Sources said that the prime minister consulted the coalition partners including Asif Ali Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the plan to hold next elections under digital census. They also reviewed strategy for approaching the Election Commission of Pakistan for conducting elections under new digital census. They also discussed the upcoming election for provincial assemblies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

The federal minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that the digital census would be completed by April 30. The Election Commission of Pakistan will need four to five months for new delimitation in the country.
