BEIJING: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing today, engaging in discussions covering the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. He will also hold a meeting with the Chinese Communist Party’s Minister for International Department. The Prime Minister’s agenda includes consultations with representatives of Chinese businessmen and companies. Following these engagements, he will embark on a visit to Urumqi.
During the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Caretaker PM Anwaar ul Haq Kakar announced that Pakistan has successfully completed more than 50 projects, amounting to $25 billion under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative has seen significant contributions to road, rail, and other infrastructure developments in Pakistan.
Kakar highlighted the imminent inauguration of a substantial airport at the southern Gwadar port, funded by China as part of the CPEC. Clean energy projects are slated for completion in the next four to five years, with an emphasis on integrated communication links for the growth of the agricultural and industrial sectors.
On the sidelines of the third Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. During the meeting, PM Kakar appealed for the UN’s intervention to halt Israel’s violence against Palestinians.
Condemning the indiscriminate targeting, he called on the international community to act swiftly to stop the violence and hold those responsible accountable. PM Kakar particularly denounced the Israeli attack on Al-Ahly Al-Mamadany Hospital in Gaza, emphasizing that targeting a hospital, a sanctuary for those in need, is an indefensible act of inhumanity. He urged adherence to international humanitarian law, which provides protection to hospitals and medical personnel.
