Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif digital payments agreement took a major step forward on Tuesday as the prime minister met a delegation of World Liberty Financial (USA) and witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote digital and cross-border payments in Pakistan.
The delegation, led by World Liberty Financial CEO Zachary Witkoff, called on the prime minister in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Bilal Bin Saqib were also present.
Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared his vision of Digital Pakistan, aimed at improving connectivity, access, transparency, and ease of services for citizens. He said that digital payments and financial innovation are a key pillar of Pakistan’s rapidly growing digital economy.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the increasing global interest in Pakistan’s digital financial sector, stating that the country is fast becoming an important part of the global digital finance ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, World Liberty Financial CEO Zachary Witkoff showed strong interest in cooperating with Pakistan to develop secure and transparent digital payment systems, particularly in cross-border payments and foreign exchange solutions. He praised Pakistan’s policy framework, calling it a strong foundation for global digital finance integration.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir witnessed the MoU signing ceremony between the Government of Pakistan and SC Financial Technologies LLC, an affiliated entity of World Liberty Financial. The agreement aims to enhance technical and policy-level cooperation for developing new cross-border digital payment systems.
The MoU was formally signed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and World Liberty Financial CEO Zachary Witkoff.
