ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for strong and decisive action to combat terrorism after deadly attacks in Balochistan that left at least 50 people dead including, 14 personnel of security forces.
Addressing in cabinet meeting He stressed that there is “no room for any weakness” in tackling this threat and urged the nation to unite against the country’s enemies.
The recent wave of violence, carried out by militants from the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), targeted both security forces and civilians, particularly those from Punjab. The attacks, which included assaults on police stations, the destruction of railway tracks, and the burning of vehicles, left a trail of devastation across the province.
In response, PM Shehbaz emphasized the need for resolute action and full national unity during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad. He underscored the importance of identifying and confronting the country’s enemies and pledged continued support for security forces, even at the cost of reducing other expenditures.
Talks with only those having ‘Pakistani mindset’
Shehbaz also condemned the idea of negotiating with terrorists, stating that talks would only be possible with those who recognize Pakistan’s Constitution and flag. He reiterated that the government would take all necessary steps to eliminate terrorism from the country and assured that the sacrifices made to achieve this goal would not be in vain.
China, Iran denounce attacks
In the aftermath of the attacks, China and Iran, along with the European Union, condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with Pakistan. China, in particular, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan, given the ongoing threats to projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Balochistan. The Iranian embassy also expressed deep sorrow for the loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
