Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established an inquiry committee led by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division to investigate the wheat import situation in the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting regarding the nation’s current wheat reserves, the prime minister queried the Ministry of National Food Security about last year’s decision to import wheat.
Expressing astonishment at the import decision despite a successful harvest, he questioned the rationale behind it.
Acknowledging this year’s bumper crop, PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of promptly procuring wheat. He instructed authorities to facilitate the purchase process and compensate farmers adequately.
Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Jam Kamal Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzaal, and other officials attended the meeting.
Lowest Inflation Rate:
Earlier today, the premier hailed the decreasing inflation rate as positive news for the populace, attributing it to the efforts made during the 16-month tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and continued by the interim government.
He noted that inflation had dropped from 39% to 20% last month and further to 17% this month.
Bringing down inflation remains the government’s top priority, he affirmed, expressing hope for more relief as economic activities increase.
He also anticipated further relief for the people with potential reductions in petroleum prices due to the downward trend in the international market.
The prime minister urged provincial governments to ensure that the benefits of reduced petroleum prices reach the public and to enforce federal government-fixed rates for food items.
He concluded optimistically, stating that with continued economic improvement, people’s living standards would further enhance, as the government endeavors to provide maximum relief.
