ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister’s House on Thursday, where both sides agreed to accelerate work on CPEC Phase II and expand economic cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary were also present during the meeting.
The prime minister congratulated the Chinese leadership on the successful holding of the “Two Sessions”. He also thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their greetings on Pakistan Day.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing CPEC Phase II, especially in agriculture, industrial cooperation and infrastructure development.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong appreciated Pakistan’s economic stability and reform efforts. He reaffirmed China’s continued support for trade, investment and development cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over ongoing high-level exchanges and agreed to enhance contacts as Pakistan and China celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The prime minister also discussed the regional situation and highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting stability and reducing tensions in the region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and the long-term Pakistan-China strategic partnership.
