ISLAMABAD: As part of governance reforms under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, the Pakistani government has begun eliminating unnecessary ministries and positions. One key step in this process is the merger of the Anti-Narcotics Division with the Ministry of Interior.
According to an official notification, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) will now operate under the Ministry of Interior, which has been renamed the “Ministry of Interior and Anti-Narcotics Division.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General to discuss nuclear technology advancements. The agenda covered its applications in cancer diagnosis, treatment, agriculture, food security, water management, and industry.
The prime minister reaffirmed his commitment to leveraging nuclear technology for sustainable development and praised the IAEA’s initiatives in the field.
During a cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif updated ministers on his engagements with international leaders, including discussions with UAE leadership, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, and other nations to strengthen bilateral ties. He also acknowledged Sri Lanka’s support in dengue control efforts.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir attended the meeting. The prime minister also briefed the cabinet about his participation in the World Government Summit, where he presented Pakistan’s stance on Gaza and called for an end to violence in Palestine.
Regarding economic reforms, the prime minister discussed his recent meeting with the IMF, stating that IMF officials praised Pakistan’s finance and energy ministers for their efforts.
Shehbaz Sharif concluded by recalling his father’s words: “Public service is the best form of worship.”
