Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to build on their status as strategic partners by expanding cooperation in trade and farming. He made these remarks during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, who visited the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Friday.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz welcomed the visiting Saudi official and reaffirmed the long-standing, brotherly relationship shared by the two nations. He also passed on his heartfelt greetings to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
During the meeting, the premier pointed to the recently finalized Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a trilateral pact involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, as a milestone that has drawn the three nations closer while signaling regional unity and stability.
Building Pakistan Saudi Arabia Agriculture Ties Through Trade
Shehbaz noted that with this strategic foundation in place, both nations should now channel their focus into strengthening economic and agricultural collaboration, turning decades of friendship into a more substantial trade and investment relationship.
The prime minister voiced his satisfaction over the progress made so far, particularly highlighting the growing momentum around Pakistani agricultural exports reaching Saudi markets. He described the engagement between the two countries on this front as productive and forward-looking.
Officials from both sides also discussed ways to raise agricultural output in Pakistan, touching on the roles of modern technology, research initiatives, and smarter water management practices in improving productivity.
To keep the momentum going, Shehbaz confirmed that a team of Pakistani agricultural specialists will travel to Riyadh in the near future to continue these discussions and work toward unlocking the full value of the Pakistan Saudi economic partnership.
In his remarks, Al-Fadley thanked the prime minister for the hospitality shown to him and his accompanying delegation. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan across agriculture, water management, and food security.
