Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that any attempt to stop Pakistan’s water supply will lead to severe consequences. He made this strong statement while addressing a jirga in Peshawar on Tuesday. Referring to recent threats, he said, “India is threatening to block the flow of water to Pakistan. But let me be clear—the enemy will face the consequences.”
He stressed that every drop of water belongs to the people of Pakistan. “They have a right to it,” he declared. The Prime Minister reminded the nation that the enemy had already seen the result of provoking a conflict. “They know what happens when they cross the line,” he added.
Speaking about his recent visits to four different countries, the Prime Minister shared a message of hope. “I saw happiness on their faces. With Allah’s blessings, we will achieve an economic victory, just as we have won on the battlefield.”
He also praised Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir. “Under his leadership,” said Shehbaz, “the Pakistan Army gave a fitting response to the enemy. They taught them a hard lesson.”
Shehbaz Sharif called his presence at the jirga a matter of pride. He said, “It is an honour to sit with you. We are here to hear your concerns. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a proud and beautiful part of Pakistan. Its people are brave and patriotic.”
He acknowledged the people of KP for their sacrifices. “Whenever Pakistan needed help, the people of KP were at the front. Their sacrifices will be written in golden letters in history.” He also recalled the painful Army Public School tragedy. “After APS, we made tough and critical decisions,” he noted.
Talking about the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, Shehbaz said, “Ali Amin pointed out that the NFC Award has not been revised for 15 years. He’s right. I had already directed the formation of a committee on this issue. The chief minister has informed me that the province has shared names for the committee.”
On the issue of terrorism, he said, “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has always been on the front line in the war against terror. We gave the province over Rs700 billion at different stages. Balochistan also faced many terrorist incidents during the same time.”
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister made a commitment. “I will form a new committee to address issues related to KP. We will meet immediately. This province deserves our full attention. We will move forward only with consensus from all stakeholders.”
He also spoke about past tensions with India. “During wartime, the whole nation supported our armed forces. The people prayed for their safety and success.” In a powerful moment, he added, “At 2:30 in the morning, the field marshal called me. India had attacked.”
Throughout his address, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of defending Pakistan’s water resources. He made it clear that the water crisis is a national issue, not a political one. Any threat to Pakistan’s rivers will be treated as an act of aggression.
