PM Shehbaz Sharif leaves for official visit to Saudi Arabia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for an official visit to Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Office confirmed on Thursday.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is accompanying the prime minister during the visit.

The spokesperson said the visit carries significant importance. He added that the trip should be viewed in the broader context of the evolving regional situation in the Middle East.

Concern over regional tensions

Tahir Andrabi expressed concern over recent attacks on Azerbaijan and several Gulf countries. He said Pakistan stands in solidarity with its brotherly Gulf nations.

He also strongly condemned attacks on Gulf states. According to the Foreign Office, such actions violate international law and threaten regional stability.

Pakistan has urged all countries to respect sovereignty and avoid actions that violate global norms. Furthermore, Islamabad called on all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Discussion with Iranian leadership

The spokesperson also revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently held detailed discussions with the Iranian leadership regarding the regional situation.

During the conversation, the prime minister congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the role of Supreme Leader following Ali Khamenei.

He also expressed concern over the growing tensions in the Middle East and stressed the need for a peaceful resolution.

Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office spokesperson said there has been no major change in Pakistan’s policy towards Afghanistan.

He stated that border crossings remain closed and there is no new development at this stage. However, Pakistan continues to demand concrete action from Afghanistan against terrorist groups operating from its territory.
