LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Wednesday that the government has not yet made a decision regarding the export of wheat.
This statement followed a high-level meeting in Lahore, chaired by the Prime Minister, which focused on the supply and demand of wheat and the federal government’s procurement programme.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to utilise technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the wheat procurement process.
In response to points raised by opposition members, Prime Minister Sharif clarified the government’s position on wheat exports.
He noted that under the previous PTI administration, both sugar and wheat were exported and subsequently imported, and this is part of the official record.
In other parliamentary developments, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazeer Tarar, responding to a calling attention notice, emphasised the government’s commitment to providing top-notch health facilities.
He highlighted a significant shortage of nursing staff in the federal capital and mentioned that evening classes have been initiated in various nursing schools to address this gap.
The House also passed the State Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Bill, 2024.
The bill aims to reconstitute the boards of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to better align them with reform initiatives focused on restructuring, transformation, and the potential privatisation of certain entities.
