ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad on Thursday to mend relations strained since the February 2024 general elections.
During their meeting, PM Sharif praised Fazlur Rehman’s efforts in upholding democracy in Pakistan and acknowledged his contributions to religious services.
In an effort to reconcile, PM Shehbaz Sharif proposed the establishment of a committee.
Fazlur Rehman has been vocal about alleged election rigging and has called for fresh elections to rectify what he claims are widespread irregularities.
In a recent public address in Karachi, he criticized the legitimacy of the February 2024 elections, accusing them of being fraudulent and asserting that they did not reflect the true voice of the people. He insisted on new elections to uphold democratic principles and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
