Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has begun a three-day official trip to Kyrgyzstan starting Monday, accepting an invitation extended by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Running from August 31 to September 2, the Shehbaz Sharif Kyrgyzstan visit centers on his attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council of Heads of State meeting, alongside a series of bilateral discussions in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Delegation and Key Engagements
The prime minister is traveling with a delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communication Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, along with other senior government officials.
While in Bishkek, Shehbaz will take part in the SCO Plus Summit and formally assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-2027 term. On the sidelines of these proceedings, he is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from other participating nations.
The prime minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31, adding a cultural dimension to the diplomatic schedule.
Bilateral Talks with President Zhaparov
On September 2, Shehbaz is scheduled to hold direct talks with President Zhaparov covering the full range of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan ties, the Foreign Office noted. The two leaders are expected to conduct a broad review of bilateral relations, focusing on areas such as trade and investment, energy cooperation, regional connectivity, education, tourism, and stronger people-to-people links.
Beyond bilateral matters, the discussions will also touch on regional and global issues of shared concern, along with opportunities for cooperation through regional and multilateral platforms.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share a warm relationship built on common history, faith, and cultural ties, along with mutual goals of fostering peace, connectivity, and prosperity across Central and South Asia.
