PM Shehbaz to Visit Saudi Arabia for Key Talks on Regional and Economic Issues

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Saudi Arabia in the next 48 hours after receiving an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The visit highlights growing engagement between the two close allies as both sides prepare to discuss regional stability and economic cooperation.

During the trip, PM Shehbaz to visit Saudi Arabia and hold important consultations in Riyadh on regional and international developments. The discussions are expected to focus on ongoing tensions in the Middle East, security concerns, and expanding economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The visit comes shortly after high-level US-Iran talks held in Islamabad, which lasted over 21 hours but ended without a formal agreement. The negotiations were seen as a major diplomatic effort aimed at reducing tensions in the Gulf region. However, no final deal was reached, and the situation remains sensitive.

Following the failed agreement, the United States announced stronger maritime measures in the region, adding further uncertainty to the fragile ceasefire environment. These developments have increased the importance of diplomatic coordination among regional partners, including Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz to visit Saudi Arabia at a time when financial cooperation is also a key agenda. Riyadh and Doha have already announced billions of dollars in support for Pakistan, and further economic discussions are expected during the visit.

The prime minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb may also join the delegation depending on his schedule.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue to deepen their strategic partnership, especially after signing a mutual defence pact in September 2025. Under this agreement, any aggression against one country is treated as an attack on both, strengthening long-standing defence cooperation.

Military cooperation has also increased, with Pakistan previously sending fighter jets and personnel to Saudi Arabia under the defence framework to enhance regional security.

As PM Shehbaz to visit Saudi Arabia, the trip is expected to reinforce diplomatic ties, strengthen economic cooperation, and align both countries on key regional security challenges.
