Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif called for unified efforts to eliminate terrorism and guide Pakistan towards sustainable development during a meeting of the apex committee of the National Action Plan in Islamabad on Saturday.
Emphasizing the collective responsibility to uphold the state’s authority, he remarked that a “soft state” is unappealing to both domestic and foreign investors.
He stressed that all institutions must contribute to combating terrorism.
Prime Minister Sharif praised the sacrifices and successes of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism but emphasized that the responsibility does not rest solely on their shoulders.
He called for federal and provincial governments, as well as all institutions, to play their part.
He assured that the government would provide the necessary equipment and resources to the security forces and mentioned upcoming legislation to empower law enforcement agencies further.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the need to combat fake news and disinformation through legal measures.
Sharif called for greater coordination and harmony among institutions to achieve long-term stability and emphasized the need for clarity of purpose among political and religious ranks in the fight against terrorism.
He stressed the importance of moving forward with consensus and mutual consultation, setting aside political differences to protect future generations.
The Prime Minister pointed out that a kinetic response alone is not enough and that non-kinetic measures are needed to counter terrorists’ narratives.
He also advocated for active diplomacy with regional countries to tighten the noose around terrorists.
