Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked Independence Day by congratulating the nation and framing the celebrations against the backdrop of what he called a “historic victory,” while honoring those who gave their lives for Pakistan’s freedom. Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, his Independence Day speech expressed gratitude to Allah for the gift of an independent homeland and acknowledged the sacrifices of the country’s founding generation.
The premier said the outcome of “Marka-e-Haq” had lifted national pride, describing it as a moment of collective achievement for the country.
Shehbaz Stresses Peace, Issues Warning on Water Rights
Shehbaz told the gathering that Pakistan sought peace rather than conflict, but cautioned that this preference should never be interpreted as a sign of weakness. He said the country would pursue peace while maintaining its honour and dignity.
The prime minister also cautioned that adversaries would not soon forget what he described as a humiliating setback suffered during Marka-e-Haq.
Turning to water resources, Shehbaz declared that every drop belonging to Pakistan represented a red line, cautioning India that Islamabad would deliver a firm response if New Delhi did not change course. The remarks placed water security alongside sovereignty as a central theme of his Independence Day speech.
On domestic priorities, the prime minister said creating fresh development opportunities for young Pakistanis remained central to his government’s agenda. He added that the country had positioned itself as a source of stability within the wider region.
