Peshawar: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Regional Meteorological Office Peshawar, has issued a weather advisory warning that a westerly low-pressure system is expected to enter the country on the night of December 29 and is likely to affect most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from December 30, 2025.
According to PMD, under the influence of this system, fairly widespread to widespread rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is expected in upper and central districts of the province from December 30, 2025 to January 2, 2026, with occasional breaks.
The affected areas include Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kurram, Khyber, Bajaur, and Mohmand.
PMD further stated that scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are very likely in Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan from December 30, 2025 to January 1, 2026.
The advisory also warns of moderate to heavy snowfall at times in most hilly areas, which may lead to road closures and slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, and the Galliyat region.
Additionally, PMD has cautioned that there is a risk of landslides and avalanches in mountainous areas during the forecast period.
Authorities have advised tourists and travelers to remain cautious and follow updates issued by local administrations and relevant departments.
