LAHORE – The National Security Committee meeting became a fresh flashpoint between political rivals. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for boycotting the high-level security meeting. The party accused PTI of aligning with anti-state forces.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also condemned the Imran Khan-led party. PPP said PTI was using national security committee meeting matters as a tool for political blackmail. The party linked PTI’s absence to its frustration over Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb held a press conference. She slammed PTI for avoiding the national security committee meeting. She said the party was helping those who want to harm Pakistan.
Marriyum also expressed sorrow over the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express. However, most of her talk focused on condemning PTI. She accused the party of questioning the performance of Pakistan’s security forces.
Since the meeting, the ruling alliance has united against PTI. Leaders accused PTI of running from important discussions. They said PTI only wants to shift attention away from the increasing threat of terrorism.
Marriyum warned that spreading chaos during such a sensitive time would not be tolerated. She said those creating unrest would face consequences. She further accused PTI of pushing an anarchist agenda.
When asked why Nawaz Sharif didn’t attend the national security committee meeting, she cited health reasons. She also brushed off questions about a fine imposed on Hussain Nawaz by the UK’s National Crime Agency. She claimed the financial matters of the Sharif family had already been cleared in Pakistan and abroad.
Marriyum called for national unity in the fight against terrorism. She reminded that after the Army Public School tragedy, PML-N had brought all political parties together. That unity, she said, helped create a strong national policy for peace.
She claimed PTI had failed to show such unity. She accused the party of skipping several national security committee meetings. According to her, national security should rise above party politics.
PPP also joined the criticism. Senator Irfan Siddiqui posted on social media platform X. He said PTI prioritized meeting a convict over attending a crucial national security committee meeting. He noted that terrorism has claimed over 93,000 Pakistani lives. Yet PTI chose politics over security matters.
Siddiqui added that even when Imran Khan was prime minister, he never attended any national security committee meeting. He claimed this showed PTI’s consistent disregard for national priorities.
PPP Central Punjab General Secretary Hassan Murtaza echoed the same view. He called PTI’s boycott an act of political blackmail. He said linking national safety to the release of a convict was disgraceful.
Murtaza strongly criticized PTI’s behavior. He said the party had always neglected critical security forums. He called Imran Khan a national criminal who now uses blackmail to influence sensitive matters. He stressed that national interest must come before politics.
