The Sanghar police on Saturday registered a case against unknown individuals at the Mangli police station, sidestepping charges against an influential landlord accused of severing a camel’s leg.
The incident occurred in the Mandh Jamrao area of Sanghar when an enraged landlord allegedly cut off a camel’s leg after the animal strayed onto his agricultural land. The landlord, along with his employees, captured the camel and inflicted the injury with a sharp tool.
The camel’s owner, Somar Bhan, protested at the Sanghar Press Club, carrying the severed leg and decrying the landlord’s cruelty. Bhan stated that the landlord mutilated the camel simply because it passed through his land.
Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori took notice of the incident, ordering the arrest of the actual perpetrators and insisting that a proper case be registered against them. He also announced his intention to gift two camels to the affected owner.
The incident gained media attention following Bhan’s protest. Under media pressure, Sanghar police filed a case but listed unknown individuals as the culprits, rather than the influential landlord.
Videos of the injured camel, showing a deep wound on its leg, surfaced on social media, further highlighting the brutality of the act.
