Policeman Martyred in Attack on Polio Team in Chaman

CHAMAN: A police officer was martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire on an anti-polio team in the Roghani Union Council area of Chaman, officials said on Thursday.

According to details, the attack took place during an ongoing polio vaccination campaign when armed assailants riding a motorcycle targeted the security personnel assigned to protect the team. As a result, Constable Nizamuddin was martyred on the spot, Deputy Commissioner Chaman Habib Ahmed Bangulzai confirmed.

The deputy commissioner said the polio team remained safe as its members were inside a house administering polio drops to children at the time of the attack.

The body of the martyred police officer was shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman for legal formalities. Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Authorities said security arrangements have been further tightened in the district to ensure the safety of polio workers and law enforcement personnel during the vaccination drive.
