BAJAUR: The polling process began at 8 am for the PK-22 by-elections and, according to the ECP schedule, voting will conclude at 5 pm.
Mubarak Zeb, who was elected as an independent on, vacated the PK-22 seat after retaining NA-8, prompting the ECP to announce elections for the vacant position.
There are more than 179,000 voters in PK-22, including 99,038 male voters and 79,972 female voters. The ECP DRO stated that 43 polling stations in PK-22 are sensitive, with 23 being declared highly sensitive.
The ECP has established 91 polling stations for the 179,000 voters. Voting started at 8 am and will continue until 5 pm. There are 11 candidates contesting in the by-election.
The main candidates include Abid Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nisar Baz of ANP, Rahatullah of Sunni Ittehad, Pakistan People’s Party’s Abdullah, and independents Akhtar Gul, Najibullah Khan, and Mian Habib Gul.
Voters have identified unrest, lack of education facilities, and inadequate health services as major issues in the constituency.
