Pakistan’s Port Qasim Ranked Among World’s Top Improving Ports

Pakistan’s Port Qasim has been ranked ninth in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024 for improvement between 2020 and 2024, highlighting a major achievement for the country’s maritime sector.

According to the index compiled with S&P Global Market Intelligence, the port improved by 35.2 points in performance, placing it among the top 20 most improved ports globally.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry hailed the achievement as “a matter of national pride,” crediting reforms, modernization, and efficiency measures for the recognition. “Our continuous efforts to modernise operations, adopt global best practices, and enhance efficiency have paid off. We remain committed to strengthening the maritime sector and making it a key driver of national and regional trade,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

The minister also acknowledged the role of private operators, particularly DP World’s Qasim International Container Terminal, in maintaining global standards. He revealed that the long-delayed dredging project for Port Qasim’s channel had finally been cleared, enabling larger vessels to dock and boosting trade capacity.

Port Qasim Authority Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Moazzam Ilyas praised the workforce, noting that their dedication and teamwork played a key role in achieving this milestone. He pledged further investment in digitalization and infrastructure to enhance the port’s global standing.

Officials emphasized that the improved ranking would benefit exporters and importers through faster and more cost-efficient services, while also attracting foreign investment into Pakistan’s logistics and shipping industries.

“This achievement is just the beginning,” Chaudhry said. “Our vision is to transform Pakistan’s maritime gateways into engines of economic growth and prosperity.
