ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to nominate Asif Ali Zardari for presidency. Sources revealed that during a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), it was disclosed that the PPP had struck a deal with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), aiming to secure key positions such as the senate chairman and provincial governors.
Emotions ran high during the CEC meeting, with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari breaking into tears as he addressed the attacks on PPP workers and candidates. He lamented, “Our workers have faced brutal violence, and our party’s democratic mandate has been undermined.”
Furthermore, concerns were raised by newly-elected lawmakers in Sindh regarding potential challenges if the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) were to gain ministries. Responding to these reservations, Zardari pointed out that the MQM-P had previously held ministerial positions.
In a separate statement, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari acknowledged that the PPP lacked sufficient support to field a prime ministerial candidate. He expressed determination to work towards national progress but emphasized the challenges ahead.
Regarding the prospect of forming an alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Bhutto-Zardari stated that the PTI had publicly ruled out negotiations with the PPP. He clarified that the PPP had no intentions of joining the federal cabinet.
