ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 69,000 SIM cards issued with canceled or fake identity documents.
This action follows the August 16 deadline for biometric verification of SIM cards, which revealed many were registered using invalid or fraudulent IDs.
To reinstate their blocked SIMs, users must obtain valid identity cards from NADRA (Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority) and visit their mobile operator or franchise for biometric verification.
Furthermore, the PTA has warned that SIMs registered with expired identity cards from before 2017 will also be blocked within a week. Users are advised to renew their ID cards through NADRA to avoid service interruptions and complete their SIM verification.
