ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has accused the administration and police of hindering their candidates’ efforts to obtain nomination papers as the submission process for the 2024 general elections began on Wednesday.
PTI has accused Maiwali DSP Qaiser Sheikh of forcefully taking Barrister Umair Niazi’s nomination papers from his father, Ziaullah Niazi, when he came out of the Returning Officer (RO).
Barrister Umair Niazi is the spokesperson of PTI founder chairman Imran.
The process of submitting nomination papers for participation in the 2024 general elections began today. According to the schedule provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), candidates can acquire and submit their nomination papers until 4:30 pm on December 22. The initial list of candidates will be unveiled on December 23, and the scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled from December 24 to December 30.
As per the outlined timeline, electoral symbols will be assigned to candidates on January 13, and the polling for the general elections is set for February 8. The ECP has issued guidelines for candidates to submit nomination papers, specifying that the submission period is from December 20 to 22. The nomination papers come with a fixed fee of Rs.100.
Candidates are allowed to submit a maximum of five nomination papers with different endorsers. The non-refundable fee for a National Assembly seat candidate is Rs30,000, while it is Rs20,000 for a Provincial Assembly seat candidate.
Additionally, candidates are required to attach income tax return documents from the last three years with their nomination papers.
The basic qualification for the candidate is to be a citizen of Pakistan and not less than 25 years of age.
As per ECP, contestants for National Assembly seats must be voters of any place in Pakistan.
