ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has granted permission to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold a power show at Tarnol Chowk in Islamabad on July 6.
This decision came after the Islamabad High Court dismissed a petition filed by Amir Masood Mughal following the issuance of the No Objection Certificate (NOC). Justice Babar Satar, who heard the case, remarked that the administration had already approved the rally, advising the party not to create further complications.
PTI’s lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen, argued that the party had not been given enough time to prepare for the rally. However, Justice Satar countered that PTI, being a large party, could organize the event within a few hours.
Previously, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on a contempt petition filed by PTI. Earlier, the district administration had rejected PTI’s application to hold a public rally protesting alleged vote rigging in the February 8 general elections, citing security concerns.
The district administration emphasized that, due to the law and order situation, protests could not be permitted at any location, including D-Chowk. The IHC had instructed the DC to decide on the application, but the request was denied due to security concerns.
PTI regional president Aamir Masood Mughal announced that his party would approach the IHC again, stating, “If you can’t provide security even in the capital, then you have no right to stay in the government.”
