Another newly-elected member of the National Assembly from NA-62 in Sarai Alamgir, supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested by police near the Jhelum River.
Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry was apprehended by authorities at a Jhelum River checkpost while en route to Islamabad, according to information shared on his official Facebook page.
Ilyas secured his seat in the National Assembly as an independent candidate with the backing of PTI. However, the police have not confirmed his arrest.
Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry emerged victorious in the NA-62 election with 97,436 votes, while his opponent, PML-N’s Chaudhry Abid Raza, secured 71,154 votes, securing the runner-up position.
