ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and law enforcement agencies have blocked multiple routes in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, including the Faizabad to Murree Road stretch and parts of the Islamabad Expressway, by placing containers. These actions have caused significant traffic disruptions amid a protest call by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) today.
Heavy contingents of Police from New Town and Sadiqabad stations have been deployed to Faizabad.
Half of the road leading to the Expressway is closed, with only one side open to traffic. Containers have been placed under the Faizabad bridge on the expressway, further restricting movement.
In related news, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a sit-in at D-Chowk, prompting the Islamabad police and administration to mobilize. Late last night, many roads leading to the Red Zone, including D-Chowk, were sealed with containers.
Sources indicate that the Islamabad Police have started placing containers on the internal and external routes of the federal capital. In response, the Islamabad Traffic Police have issued an alternative traffic plan to mitigate the disruptions.
Citizens are instructed to use the Korang Road if Rawat Cross is closed, and the motorway if Peshawar GT Road is closed.
In case the Srinagar Highway at G14 is closed, citizens should use Peshawar Road, GT Road, and Colonel Sher Khan Road. If Faizabad is closed, use Shahrah-e-Park Road. For zero point closure, use Faisal Avenue and Jinnah Avenue. If Serena Chowk is closed, use 7th Avenue. For Embassy Road closure, use Shaheed Millat Road.
Residents are advised to follow the alternative routes provided by the Islamabad Traffic Police to avoid inconvenience.
