PTI leader Senator Ali Zafar dismissed talks of boycotting the imminent Senate chairman and deputy chairman elections. Despite some internal deliberations within the party, Zafar confirmed that the prevailing stance among PTI members does not favor such a move.
Zafar underscored that PTI Founder Imran Khan has entrusted the decision regarding the Senate election to party members. “I firmly believe that abstaining from the system will only keep us on the sidelines,” Zafar stated. “Regardless of the election’s legality, our participation is essential to remain engaged within the system.”
While acknowledging PTI’s slim prospects in the upcoming elections slated for April 9, Senator Ali Zafar affirmed the party’s symbolic participation. However, he disclosed that PTI is yet to finalize its candidates for the positions of chairman, deputy chairman, and opposition leader in the Senate.
Moreover, Senator Zafar highlighted PTI’s ongoing deliberations regarding nominations for key Senate roles, emphasizing that decisions would be made in consultation with Imran Khan.
Additionally, addressing the issue of discussing the IHC judges’ letter in parliament, Senator Zafar noted the constitutional constraints on debating matters under trial. He suggested that the National Assembly could provide clarity on the matter through a ruling.
Senator Ali Zafar’s statements provide clarity on PTI’s stance for the upcoming Senate election, affirming the party’s commitment to active participation in the democratic process, despite anticipated challenges.
