ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has been placed on judicial remand to Adiala jail by a local court in Islamabad.
Following his arrest in connection to a corruption case related to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the court, presided over by Judicial Magistrate Qudratullah, heard the case.
Asad Qaiser’s counsel, Shoaib Shaheen, raised questions about the police’s authority in making the arrest, but the court proceeded with the judicial remand.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has been instructed to complete the legal procedures within a week.
The arrest, which occurred a day earlier during a raid at Asad Qaiser’s residence, has been strongly denounced by the PTI, labeling it a “shameful” act. The party expressed concerns about the timing of the arrest, coinciding with the announcement of the election date, and emphasized its impact on the transparency of the electoral process.
