ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has claimed that former prime minister Imran Khan believes Fawad Chaudhry was complicit in a regime change plot due to his meetings with former army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
In a statement, Marwat alleged that Chaudhry orchestrated cases against himself to secure a stay in VIP jails where he had favorable arrangements. He criticized Chaudhry for speaking against PTI, likening his actions to someone overly enthusiastic at another’s wedding. Marwat also suggested that some journalists abroad were tasked with targeting PTI leaders.
Marwat claimed that Chaudhry maintained contact with Gen Bajwa and acted against PTI’s interests, causing the party to view him with suspicion. He emphasized that Chaudhry lacks the moral authority to criticize others within the party, accusing him of abandoning PTI during critical times. “Everyone saw Fawad fleeing while I was arrested in front of the Lahore High Court, but I did not flee,” Marwat stated.
Additionally, Marwat mentioned that PTI’s Jhelum chapter has threatened to leave the party if Chaudhry is allowed to rejoin. He revealed that Imran Khan has summoned him for a meeting, scheduled to take place by July 15 or July 16.
