PESHAWAR: A major controversy erupted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as PTI lawmaker Fazal Elahi allegedly led a forceful operation at several power stations in Peshawar. The incident began when Fazal Elahi, a sitting member of the KP Assembly, reportedly stormed the Rehman Baba Grid Station along with a group of his supporters.
According to PESCO officials, the group pressured the staff to restore electricity across all feeders at the grid station. The forced restoration overloaded the system. As a result, the entire station shut down, leaving many areas without power.
The PESCO spokesperson confirmed that the unauthorized action by Fazal Elahi and his followers violated load management rules. The feeders that were reactivated are known as high-loss lines, typically subjected to controlled power supply. These areas suffer from heavy electricity theft and unpaid bills, which is why they are managed under specific regulations.
The unrest didn’t stop at Rehman Baba. Protestors also gathered at the Peshawar City Grid and the Peshawar Industrial Grid. During these demonstrations, PESCO staff were reportedly threatened and even assaulted by angry protestors.
The spokesperson added that this incident disrupted the power distribution system and caused serious damage to the operational integrity of the grid network. Following the disruption, PESCO contacted law enforcement and initiated legal action against Fazal Elahi for illegally activating restricted feeders and inciting a mob.
This is not the first time Fazal Elahi has made headlines for confrontational behavior, but this incident may lead to serious consequences. PESCO has vowed to pursue charges and reinforce security at vulnerable grid locations.
