The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly opposed the proposed salary increase for parliamentarians. However, Senate Secretary Hasnain Haider revealed that no PTI senator has officially rejected the pay hike in writing.
Speaking to the media, Haider clarified that the Senate Secretariat has not received any formal notification from PTI lawmakers refusing the additional salary. He also stated that the increased salaries have not yet been processed. The bill authorizing the salary and allowance increment is still awaiting presidential approval.
Despite PTI’s public criticism of the salary hike, no senator from the party has taken concrete action to reject it. The Senate secretary stressed that if any member wants to decline the raise, they must submit a written request. So far, not a single PTI senator has done so.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar had previously urged senators unwilling to accept the pay increase to submit their refusal in writing. The Senate Secretariat has confirmed that without a formal rejection, all members will receive the revised salaries once the bill is approved.
Senate officials have also clarified that the notification for the new salaries will only be issued after the president signs the bill. Until then, no extra payments will be made. This raises questions about PTI’s salary stance, as their public opposition has not translated into any official rejection from their lawmakers.
