FIA arrests Parvez Elahi in money laundering case

GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi was discharged by a local court on Saturday in two corruption cases filed against him BY anti-corruption establishment. However, the anti-corruption establishment rearrested him in another corruption case.
The cases were related to alleged kickbacks received during the construction of roads in Gujrat.
The court delivered its verdict, which was reserved earlier, on a plea from the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) seeking a 14-day physical remand of the former Punjab chief minister. Elahi was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Afzal’s court by ACE officials, a day after his arrest in Lahore.
Earlier in the day, Elahi had been brought from Lahore to ACE’s regional office in Gujranwala. During the court hearing, the anti-corruption officials requested the court for Elahi’s physical remand. The ACE had registered two corruption cases against Elahi in Gujranwala’s anti-corruption police station, involving billions of rupees.
However, it is important to note that a local court in Lahore had ordered Elahi’s release in connection with a corruption case related to the misappropriation of Rs70 million in development funds allocated for the Gujrat district. Soon after his release, he was re-arrested in the corruption case registered against him in Gujranwala by the Punjab ACE.
During the hearing, the investigation team informed the court about the two cases registered against Elahi in Gujranwala and requested a 14-day physical remand for further investigation and recovery of the allegedly received bribes.
After his acquittal in two cases, the anti-corruption arrested him another case related to appointments in Punjab assembly.
