ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has been completely sealed off and mobile services have been suspended due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest at D-Chowk, causing widespread disruption. Metro services in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi also suspended.
Public confusion and inconvenience are mounting as all main roads in Islamabad leading to D-Chowk, the focal point of the demonstration, have been sealed off with containers. Authorities have placed containers at major city entry and exit points to prevent large gatherings.
Main entry points at Faizabad Islamabad Expressway, Khanna Interchange towards Faisal Mosque, 9th Avenue entry into Islamabad, 26 No Chungi, Margalla Avenue entry from GT road have been completely blocked with containers. Jinnah Avenue leading towards Blue Area and D-Chowk completely sealed
In addition to roadblocks, cellular services have been suspended in key areas, leading to communication breakdowns for many residents and protestors alike.
Public transportation has also been significantly impacted, with Metro bus services suspended throughout the capital. Commuters are struggling to find alternatives, adding to the already tense situation.
Schools across Islamabad have been closed, with the local administration citing security concerns. Government and private offices have also reportedly shut down, as employees were advised to either work from home or avoid the area altogether.
The police force, including over 4,000 officers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, have been deployed to maintain order.
Due to the PTI protest, they have sealed all Islamabad entry points to prevent protestors from reaching sensitive areas like Red Zone and other government installations.
According to sources, over 150 PTI leaders and workers have already been detained ahead of the protest, and raids continue to target others involved.
Despite heavy police presence and security measures, PTI leaders have vowed to reach D-Chowk, with some even stating that they are willing to face arrest.
As the standoff continues, the city remains on high alert, with citizens frustrated by the ongoing disruption to daily life.
Section 144 has been imposed and authorities have warned that any breach of security protocols will result in immediate action, and efforts are being made to ensure that law and order are maintained during the protest.
