KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will not be allowed to stage a strike in Sindh on February 8, accusing the party of attempting to recreate a May 9–like situation in Karachi.
Criticising the recent Karachi visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s aide Suhail Afridi, Sharjeel Memon said that PTI deliberately tried to create unrest in the city and violated the law.
He said the Sindh government had no intention of harassing Suhail Afridi, but PTI appeared to be in a “mischievous mode”. Despite a security threat alert, permission was granted for the rally, he added.
The senior minister said that at the start of the visit, Suhail Afridi was advised not to visit certain sensitive areas due to security concerns. However, he ignored the advice and went to several areas despite the threat.
Sharjeel Memon clarified that the Sindh Chief Minister could not meet Suhail Afridi due to official engagements, rejecting claims of deliberate avoidance.
Reiterating the government’s stance, he said law and order will be maintained at all costs, and PTI will not be allowed to disrupt peace in Sindh on February 8.
