Peshawar: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has withdrawn its contempt of court case against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) following a similar move after the Supreme Court’s decision.
Justices Atiq Shah and Arshad Ali of PHC heard the case related to PTI’s intra-party elections and electoral symbols.
PTI’s lawyer, Shah Faisal Advocate, informed the court that the petition became ineffective post the Supreme Court’s decision, leading to the withdrawal.
This comes after PTI’s plea in the Supreme Court, disposed of on the basis of withdrawal, where the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, questioned PTI lawyer Latif Khosa about their intention to pursue the case.
Khosa announced the withdrawal, stating a preference for addressing democracy’s survival in the people’s court, citing dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s decision of January 13 affecting over 230 seats.
Despite the Chief Justice’s remark that PTI can accept or reject the decision, Khosa emphasized their desire not to fight the case in the court, highlighting issues like the allocation of diverse electoral symbols to PTI candidates.
The PHC subsequently disposed of the contempt of court case against the Election Commission.
