PTI Withdraws Contempt Plea Against ECP

On Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) withdrew its petition seeking contempt proceedings against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for alleged failure to ensure a fair playing field before the upcoming elections.

The plea, filed on December 26, was disposed of by the Supreme Court today following the withdrawal.

PTI’s lawyer, Latif Khosa, informed Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa that the party would take the matter to the people’s court, expressing dissatisfaction with the January 13 verdict that deprived PTI of its ‘bat’ symbol.

Khosa argued that PTI candidates would now contest as independents, causing confusion.

Justice Musarrat Hilali raised concerns over ECP’s conduct, questioning its fairness in handling PTI-related matters ahead of the February 8 polls.
