Islamabad Police arrested Raoof Hasan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Information Secretary, from PTI’s Central Secretariat. He is accused of heading a digital media cell that allegedly disseminated anti-Pakistan content.
According to the police, the arrest was based on substantial evidence linking Hasan to operations aimed at undermining Pakistan’s integrity on an international scale.
“The PTI digital media centre had turned into a hub of international misinformation, from where anti-Pakistan propaganda was being orchestrated globally,” stated the police authorities.
During the raid, computers and other materials were seized from the PTI’s office as evidence. Contrary to earlier reports, police sources denied claims of arresting four women or confiscating additional items such as laptops and documents.
PTI leader Khurrum Sher Zaman condemned the raid, accusing the government of targeting PTI under the guise of law enforcement.
“We’ve been informed that our staff was detained, awaiting transport to jail, while computers and vital documents were taken,” Zaman expressed on X.
Meanwhile, PTI staged a protest in Lahore demanding the immediate release of their detained members. The demonstration, led by Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhacher, saw participation from PTI’s lawyers wing and numerous supporters.
The situation continues to evolve as PTI seeks legal recourse amidst growing tensions with law enforcement over the arrest of Raoof Hasan.
