Punjab anti-drone units will soon operate in every district as the provincial government moves to strengthen security and monitor airspace more closely. Officials say the new system will help authorities detect and disable unauthorized drones using advanced jamming technology.
The decision came after growing security concerns and recent tensions along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. According to the provincial Home Department, Punjab anti-drone units will conduct aerial surveillance with specialized drone fleets to keep watch over district airspace and respond quickly to suspicious activity.
Each of the Punjab anti-drone units will work under the supervision of the District Police Officer in the respective district. Authorities believe this structure will allow faster coordination and quick action if unidentified drones appear in sensitive areas.
Officials explained that the systems used by Punjab anti-drone units are designed to block or disable drones operated by hostile elements or individuals involved in illegal activities. The technology relies on advanced jamming tools that interrupt communication between the drone and its operator.
The government has already enforced strict restrictions on drone flights across the province. Section 144 remains in force, which bans the use of outdoor drones by the public due to ongoing security risks.
The move comes after the federal government imposed a nationwide ban on drone operations last month. The decision followed escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan after border clashes that raised serious security concerns.
During a briefing after the clashes, military officials said security forces had intercepted and neutralized several drones during an exchange of fire with the Afghan Taliban regime. Some of those drones were reportedly spotted in areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Abbottabad and Nowshera.
Authorities also confirmed that militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij had attempted to launch small drones in parts of KP during the period of heightened tensions. Security forces managed to stop those attempts before they caused any damage.
Officials say Punjab anti-drone units will add another layer of protection by monitoring the skies and responding quickly to any suspicious drone activity. The government believes the step will improve security coordination and help prevent potential threats in urban and sensitive areas.
Security experts say the establishment of Punjab anti-drone units reflects a broader effort by Pakistan to modernize its internal security systems and counter emerging aerial threats.
