Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a proposal to allow children aged 16 years and below to ride motorcycles, after the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2026.
Under the bill, the committee has endorsed allowing 16-year-olds to ride motorcycles, along with the introduction of a Juvenile Driving Permit for underage riders. A formal legal framework will be created for motorcycle riders aged 16 to 18 years.
According to the proposed law, the juvenile driving permit will be issued by the licensing authority, and underage riders will be required to follow strict conditions, supervision rules, and safety regulations to legally operate motorcycles.
Government officials said the legislation aims to control the growing trend of underage, unlicensed driving, improve road safety, and reduce traffic accidents across the province.
The proposal also includes amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965. Following approval by the standing committee, the bill will now be presented in the Punjab Assembly session, where it will be debated and, if passed, enacted into law.
