ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has imposed a ban on the use of social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, by on-duty police officers and personnel. This decision follows the viral circulation of videos featuring Punjab police officers and female staff on social media.
The ban aims to prevent police personnel from using social media during official duties. In response, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police has introduced a new social media usage policy for officers and employees. The policy mandates strict departmental action against those who upload videos or engage in social media activities while in uniform.
According to the IG’s directives, the AIG Operations has issued specific guidelines stipulating that no social media activity is permitted without prior authorization from the District Police Officer (DPO) or unit head. Police officers and personnel are also barred from expressing personal, political, or religious opinions on social media.
All official police-related communications must be conducted through authorized channels managed by the DPO or unit head. Additionally, private individuals are prohibited from using police vehicles or facilities for social media purposes. Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and unit heads are tasked with enforcing these new social media regulations.
