Punjab CM Signals Expansion of Basant Celebrations to Other Cities After Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has hinted at holding Basant celebrations in other cities of the province, following the successful and safe conduct of the festival in Lahore.

Praising the residents of Lahore for strictly following safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the chief minister said she was pleased that the public had lived up to the government’s trust.

In a statement, Maryam Nawaz said Lahore was filled with happiness, adding that she herself was delighted to see citizens celebrating Basant in a responsible and disciplined manner. She credited the people of Lahore for playing a key role in making Basant joyful yet safe by adhering to rules and regulations.

She noted that there were no reports of banned kite strings, including metallic or prohibited cords, and that only approved kite sizes and paper were used during the celebrations.

The chief minister said Basant was celebrated safely on rooftops in line with SOPs, and due to the absence of metal wire, electricity transformers also remained protected. She added that the concept of a “Safe Basant” would now be extended to other cities after Lahore.

Maryam Nawaz further stated that 200 Clinics on Wheels and 21 field hospitals were deployed across different areas to ensure emergency medical support. She reminded the public that Sunday marked the final day of the Basant festival and urged citizens to continue exercising caution.
