Why the Punjab Drone Ban Was Imposed
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said the provincial government decided to restrict drones in open spaces to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. The measure is also meant to protect public and private property.
The order was issued by the Punjab Home Secretary under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
What Is Still Allowed
Small drones can still be used inside halls and marquees during indoor events. Organisers will be responsible for making sure the drones are operated safely and lawfully on their premises.
The ban does not apply to intelligence agencies and law enforcement institutions carrying out official duties.
How to Get a Drone NOC in Punjab
The government has formed a committee with the authority to grant permission for drone use. Anyone who wishes to fly a drone in an open area must obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from this committee.
Enforcement Across the Province
The Home Department has directed district administrations and police authorities across Punjab to enforce the orders strictly. It added that protecting public safety and maintaining law and order remain the government’s top priority.
