Lahore: The Punjab government has completed preparations for Ramadan, announcing the establishment of 100 Ramadan bazaars across the province with discounted essential goods.
According to official details, 1,216 free meal points (dastarkhwans) will be set up in 152 tehsils to support low-income families during the holy month.
Under the Rs47 billion “Ramadan Nigehban Package,” distribution of special relief cards has begun. For subsidised flour, 120 sale points will be created where a 10kg flour bag will be available for Rs850 at Ramadan bazaars and designated outlets.
Authorities said 20 essential food items will be sold at a 20% discount at Ramadan markets. Chicken will be available at Rs15 per kilogram below the official rate, while sugar prices will be capped at Rs160 per kilogram during Ramadan.
Around 105 major supermarket chains have been directed to set up wholesale-rate counters to ensure price stability.
Meanwhile, a three-day Ramadan savings festival will begin tomorrow at Jillani Park in Lahore. The Food Security and Commodities Management Department has issued instructions to all deputy commissioners to maintain price control across districts.
A special enforcement force has been tasked with ensuring implementation of official rates, while the Food Authority will monitor meal quality at government-sponsored dastarkhwans.
Officials say the measures are aimed at providing maximum relief to citizens amid rising living costs during Ramadan.
