Punjab Imposes Rs50,000 Fine on Waste Dumping During Eid ul Adha Cleanliness Drive

The Punjab government has announced a strict waste dumping fine of Rs50,000 for anyone found throwing animal remains or waste in streets and residential areas during Eid ul Adha celebrations.

The decision regarding the waste dumping fine was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where officials reviewed cleanliness arrangements across the province for Eid ul Adha.

According to officials, Eid ul Adha in Pakistan will be observed on Wednesday, May 27, as announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Under the new waste dumping fine policy, authorities have been directed to strictly monitor illegal disposal of animal waste. Special vigilance squads will be deployed across Punjab to ensure compliance and prevent violations during Eid days.

The chief minister also ordered a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about proper disposal methods. She stressed that animal waste must not be thrown in open or restricted areas, including streets, drains, and canals.

As part of the broader cleanliness plan, known as the “Suthra Punjab Operation,” officials have been instructed to ensure proper sanitation in housing societies, cantonment areas, railway colonies, and major commercial markets across the province.

Authorities said around 2,687 major markets will be specially cleaned and monitored during Eid. A large workforce, including sanitation staff and temporary workers, will be deployed to manage waste collection and disposal.

The waste dumping fine is part of a wider enforcement strategy that also includes setting up collection centres and designated dumping sites across Punjab. Officials confirmed that thousands of vehicles, including loaders, dumpers, and rickshaws, will be used for waste management operations.

During the meeting, it was also shared that biodegradable bags will be provided to citizens for proper disposal of animal remains. Additionally, rose water sprays will be arranged at mosques and Eid prayer gatherings to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.

The provincial government has also activated the “Suthra Punjab” helpline 1139, allowing citizens to report complaints or seek assistance during the Eid cleanliness operation.

Officials said strict action will be taken against negligence, while officers showing good performance will be rewarded. The government aims to ensure a clean and safe environment across Punjab during Eid ul Adha through effective implementation of the waste dumping fine policy and sanitation drive.
